Sunoz “Sunny” Soroosh, CNM, WHNP-BC, MPH is an east-coast based Certified Nurse Midwife, Nurse Practitioner, Actor, and Stand-up Comedian. She is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area and has traveled and worked as a Registered Nurse all over the world. Sunny’s parents are Iranian immigrants, and she is fluent in English, Spanish, and Farsi (Persian).
Sunny was inspired to become a midwife by her grandmother, who was a midwife at the largest public hospital for women in Iran and volunteered in rural areas in her spare time.
Sunny received her undergraduate education at the University of California, Berkeley where she graduated with honors with degrees in Public Health and Spanish. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and Master’s of Public Health at Columbia University, and her Master’s in Nursing at Frontier Nursing University. She is fluent in Spanish and Farsi (Persian), and is a Certified Spanish Medical Interpreter.
Sunny was a Registered Nurse for 8 years before pursuing her advanced degree in Nurse-Midwifery. She has worked in many different fields, including Rheumatology and Internal Medicine, but her true passion is sexual and reproductive health. She worked as a RN in the Dominican Republic, and at birth centers in Guatemala (with Mayan midwives!), New York City, and on the Texas-Mexico border. Sunny was also a Registered Nurse Coordinator and Surgical Nurse at Planned Parenthood of New York City. In addition to her clinical work there, Sunny became involved in public relations, fundraising, and reproductive rights activism. Vogue Magazine, Huffington Post, Rewire News Group, and Time Out New York have featured Sunny for her healthcare and advocacy work. She also spoke twice in front of the New York State Senate, as well as for many other panels and events in New York City.
During the COVID-19 pandemic,
Sunny served her NYC community by working at the Javits Center Military Hospital during the beginning of the crisis in 2020, and then at testing and vaccination sites throughout the city. She was featured in an article on the Frontier Nursing University website for this work. She completed her Nurse-Midwifery Fellowship at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC, and practiced as a Midwife at Lenox Hill Hospital and Bellevue Hospital thereafter. She currently works as a Nurse Midwife at North Central Bronx Hospital and is now offering private Childbirth Education Courses.
Sunny is an actor, stand-up comedian, and a member of SAG-AFTRA.
She has been featured on many popular television shows including Law and Order: SVU, The Politician, Evil, Girls5Eva and Pose. She is known for her costarring role as “Pammy” on Amy Schumer’s Life and Beth on Hulu, as well as her most recent role as the Delivery Doctor in the film The Last Day, which premiered at the 2026 Tribeca Film Festival. Sunny played Jason Alexander’s assistant on The Problem with Jon Stewart in his role as Jeff Bezos, and played Mo’s Wife to comedian Mo Amer on the Hulu show Ramy. She takes on medical roles in addition to acting roles, and often joins the crew as a Medical Tech Advisor, Baby Nurse, or Surgical Hand Double on set. Her medical work on the Peacock show, Dr. Death, premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival. Other notable crew credits include Medical Tech Advisor on the films Caught Stealing and Little Brother, and the television shows FBI: Most Wanted, Evil, Power Book II: Ghost, and Gossip Girl XOXO.
Sunny has performed stand up on comedy stages all over the country. She is one of the co-producers of the Yes Queen! Comedy Show series in Washington, DC and New York, NY. She recently performed in New York City with Gary Gulman and Josh Gondelman on Alexandra Petri's latest book tour. Sunny has opened for comedian Kate Robards at the Marsh Theater in San Francisco and for Matthew Broussard at the DC Comedy Loft in Washington, DC. Her comedy credits also include performances at the DC Improv in Washington DC, Laughs Comedy Club in Seattle, WA, and St. Marks Comedy Club and Eastville Comedy Club in New York, NY, as well as the Knockouts Comedy Festival in 2024.
